The RealDWG 2009 software library allows C++ and .NET developers to read and write AutoCAD® DWG™ and DXF™ files. RealDWG 2009 provides compatibility with AutoCAD DWG files; this includes read and write support for the AutoCAD R14, 2000, 2000i, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 releases and drawing enhancements now available with AutoCAD 2009. RealDWG 2009 is also used internally by Autodesk to provide DWG support in non-AutoCAD-based applications such as Autodesk® VIZ, AutoCAD® Revit®, and Autodesk® Inventor® software products.

Software applications that link with the Autodesk RealDWG libraries are called host applications and do not require the presence of an AutoCAD application. Autodesk RealDWG does not impose a user interface and provides the framework to support in-memory file operations and custom objects. Autodesk RealDWG is licensed technology.
