Professional Background
After graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1974, Mike began
a 10 year banking career with Cumberland Bank (now Fifth Third
Bank). In his last position, he was Senior Vice President, responsible
for Commercial and Residential Mortgage Banking, reporting to the
President and CEO, with a staff of over 140.
In 1984 he joined Health Concepts Corporation, a $25 million
privately-held operator of long term care facilities. As Executive
Vice President of Development, he was responsible for negotiating
the purchase and financing of 18 facilities in Colorado, Florida,
Indiana, Kentucky, and Michigan.
In 1991, Mike joined T -Shirts & More, Inc., a privately-held,
wholesale distributor of active-wear manufactured by Fruit of the
Loom, Russell Athletic, and Hanes. As President and Chief Operating
Officer (and minority shareholder) he was responsible for all facets
of the business. During his four year tenure, the revenue grew from
$3 million to $25 million. The business was sold.
In 1995, he was engaged as a consultant to the founder of Dey Systems,
Inc (DSI), who had developed a new technology for healthcare institutions
to use to measure patient satisfaction. Mike's charge was to
develop the infrastructure and processes necessary to support the
marketing of client satisfaction measurement services to non-healthcare
industries. In 1996 he concluded the consulting engagement, after
which he and a partner formed an independent sales organization to
market enhanced client satisfaction measurement services. In 1997,
he was named Chief Operating Officer of DSI, and assumed responsibility
for the day-to-day operations of the business, managing a staff of
30 professionals. He oversaw the transformation of this company
with one software client to a $5 million service provider. In 2001,
he and his partner sold their interests.
In September, 2001 Mike, along with 2 partners, joined WYNCOM, Inc.,
as COO, at the request of the majority shareholder, Advent International,
a large international private equity firm. Founded in 1992, WYNCOM,
under its brand "Lessons in Leadership," was a leading
producer of soft-skill seminars and satellite teleconferences featuring
world renowned thought leaders and business authors, such as Dr.
Steven Covey, Dr. Tom Peters and Dr. Ken Blanchard. WYNCOM
planned, marketed, and produced these events throughout the US, and
the world, in partnership with the speakers, local colleges and universities,
resellers, and corporate licensees. The three partners were
engaged to perform a "turnaround," stabilize the operations,
and subsequently purchase Advent's equity, or sell it for
them. In 2004, the shareholder declined to invest further capital
and engaged Mike to dissolve the business.
In January 2005, Mike joined his long time friend and business colleague,
Michael Golway, as Chief Operating Officer of Advanced Solutions.
